Hey there gang. I´m enjoying some incredibly warm weather, sunshine, sandy beaches, tropical fruit and lots of friends and family here in paradise...Dominican Republic.
Rem and I didn´t get much sleep on our flight to Toronto and by the time we had breakfast with everyone and visited my great grama in Shelburne we were REALLY ready for our naps. Aunt Cindy and Grama dropped by to visit in the afternoon and we went to dinner with Marci, Kyle and Kalen before heading back to Toronto to the motel. Another short sleep later and we were on the plane heading south. When we arrived there were greeters dressed in tropical skirts with fruit hats, music at the airport and I loved the open air airport. It was about a 40 minute bus ride to the resort and WOW is it ever impressive. Rem and I have a king size bed, a balcony, and a huge soaker tub. We´re right on the ocean and the grounds are spectacular...lots of palm trees, fountains and wild birds and turtles. Yesterday we had a pretty relaxing day hanging out at the beach. Jon, Rem, Dad and I went kayaking out to the reef to play in the surf. I was the only one who seemed able to stay in my boat! I was on hat rescue patrol. That was tonnes of fun. We had dinner at the specialty Japanese restaurant and I couldn´t believe how much food they were giving us. Actually, all the food is fantastic. Way less greasy than Cuba was.
Today Rem, Uncle Dave, Dad and I went golfing. This was my first time to ever play 18 holes of regular golf and I was allowed a lot of ¨throw-ins¨off the start. By about hole 14 I was actually starting to do pretty well except that I was hungry beyond belief and starting to get a little dizzy. I´m sure we all golfed par today :)
Tonight we all go to the mexican restaurant and I think we´ll just hang out at the pool for the afternoon. Then tomorrow we are going on a tour with Jon and Jas.
I know I´m late getting my 8 week info up but I don´t want to spent too much time on the internet. Watch for that on Monday.

Late Birthday Dinner out
Yay, I've finished my last working day until after my trip. It hasn't been so busy that I feel ready to crash so thank goodness for that. As a treat after work, my good friend Rhondi took me out to Milestones for a belated birthday dinner. Unfortunately no bellinis for me but I did have a yummy steak with shrimp and lobster butter. I'm definitely eating my fair share at restaurants nowadays, but luckily haven't put on any weight yet. I guess junior has a pretty good metabolism!
This morning I took Jax (my dog) down to the Alouette River for a walk and swim. The weather's actually been pretty nice the last couple of days so I was glad to get out and enjoy it.Jax having fun in the snow back in December
Tonight I have to find a nice spot to curl up and watch the Canucks game and maybe get some packing done. What do I need? A couple bathing suits, shorts, sunglasses.....

Last Day of Work Till my Holidays
Well, I've almost made it through another work week. Luckily my clinic schedule hasn't been too crazy so I'm getting lots of little breaks and enough time to stuff my face between clients :) I sure am hungry a lot more than usual and get really nauseated if I wait too long before eating. I have one more day of work and then two days to pack and prepare for my trip to the Dominican Republic. I can't wait to sit on a warm beach with fresh juice and just chill. I'll be in Toronto for one day to do a whirlwind visit to my great grandma and sister before heading south. I hear its about -100 degrees there though...I hate windchills.
My moods have not been too unstable. I am finding myself pretty tired by the evenings and maybe a little frustrated with the near constant icky feeling. However friends have been saying that I "glow" and my body size actually seems to be a little smaller. I realize I'm reaching the midway point of the first trimester and that there's still a really high risk for "junior" so keep your fingers crossed, pray or just think of us and I love to hear from you either on email or blog comments.

Playoffs
Hey again. No more morning sickness so far (knock on wood) but I have been feeling pretty sluggish. I'm really looking forward to lounging in the pool and on the beach next week in Punta Cana. Yep, really can't wait to go.
The Jets (my girls hockey team) have started our playoff run on a good foot. We played the Kitsilano Kanakas on Sunday and defeated them 3-1. I definately felt a bit sluggish out there...probably from lounging on the couch for the last 3 days more than anything. All in all though I felt much better after the game and didn't make too many big mistakes. I'll miss the next game while I'm away but the team are going to the provincial championships in March regardless so I won't miss anything too important.
Tonight Jax and I have our agility class. He loves all the running around and seeing the other dogs. He's very smart too and learns new equipment really quickly. It's really more a matter of me telling him what to do next fast enough! Other than that, things are pretty much going as usual. Only 3 more work days till DR!!!

Icky Sicky
Well, I had my first real bout of morning "sickness" and wow, it couldn't have been more embarrassing. I was at one of my massage companies dropping stuff off for my helper and was chatting with one of the ladies that I haven't seen in a while. One of the head honchos waved at me and asked if I was here for the day just as the wave hit me. I had to just kind of politely wave as I beelined for the washroom and started heaving just as I got into one of the stalls. There were two ladies in the bathroom at the time and started asking me if I was ok, brought me water and suggested that I should go home and lay down. So with breakfast successfully out I had to re-face the lady I had been talking to and the CEO guy and break the news. They were happy for me of course but what a way to make an announcement!
Today I won over a new company to the world of corporate massage. I will be starting in April with a law firm downtown. I'm pretty excited but also a bit worried about my helper. He's not having as much success at the companies simply for the fact that he's male (even though he's an awesome therapist) and the new company also would like a female therapist. I guess if worse comes to worst they get no therapist at all in a few months but I was really hoping to have some people in place by then to cover ($) my mat leave. I should stop stressing out. All I can do is look for another therapist and keep searching for more openminded companies to keep Ralf busy. I'd really like him to succeed too.

Retired #19
Well, tonight was my last game in mens hockey for a while. I'm retiring the old #19. Maybe I'll take up coaching instead...any chance to push boys around. The whole team was out for my special game - 17 in total (what a zoo!) and I played with my high production line - Mashi and Colin. The opposition scored early in the game and held a 1-0 lead over us until midway through the third. Adam popped the rebound into an empty net to tie us up. Try as I might I just could not find the handle on the game winner, though I was close at least 3 times!! Unfortunately the other team scored with about 3 minutes left in the game and managed to hold on to the 2-1 lead. I was hoping to go out on a win and with some more points on my record but it was really nice to play that one last game.
In fact it really helped with the tummy ickies that I've been feeling the last couple of days. There's nothing like skating your ass off to forget about little icks and pains. I'm really hungry all the time and feel just a bit under the weather. Work is fine though, as long as I bring lots of snacks. I guess tomorrow I'll be hitting the 6 week mark!

Found my Kryptonite
Well, thanks dad. The birthday gift every girl wants for her 30th is a cold! I guess it was your way of having me remember you after you have gone. Still...it sucks. My nose is stuffy and I am sneezing like crazy - and I can't take anything for it. And it totally neutralizes my new found superpower...I can't smell a thing. Hopefully it will be over and done with before we head out to the DR.
This morning we met with Rem's family for breakfast. Doug and Joanne have just returned from a trip to Costa Rica so they've been a little out of the loop. We were celebrating Joanne's birthday today and had missed Doug's in late January so Rem and I decided to incorporate their prezzies into our surprise. I bought some teeny tiny baby socks and we put them in the sleeves of their new shirts. After we ordered our meals we gave them the gifts and I insisted that they try them on right away so we could see if they fit. Jeanine was in on the surprise so she had my camera pointed right at Joanne and managed to catch this awesome picture! It took a second for the meaning of those little socks to sink in and I got to watch the play of emotions on her face :)
Doug ordered his first seniors meal, fitting seeing as he's going to be a grandpa!!! Yep, that was pretty funny.
The rest of the day was pretty busy. We went with Jeanine to help her pick her wedding dress. She has it narrowed down to 2 - both gorgeous - but can't make up her mind. Then I went to hockey but the other team didn't show up so we just had a 4 on4 scrimmage to get some exercise and have a bit of fun. My last game with the guys will be on Tuesday :(
Still feeling pretty good. Just more hungry and it's more urgent to eat once I start feeling hungry or else I just feel sick.

I'm feeling really good today. I had to go to traffic court and fight a stupid ticket but luckily the officer didn't show up and I got off without having to say anything. Yay!
Tonight I am having my Big Birthday Bowling Bash with a bunch of friends. I'm busy cleaning the house and making a cake and shopping for munchies but have found a few minutes to blog. I've heard from Peter and Marianne and Nathalie now...hi you guys! I'm still trying to make up my mind on when to let my hockey teams know that I'll be stepping away for the rest of the season. I'm thinking just one or two more games with the Relic guys team to say "Goodbye" but finish up the 4 more weeks of the season with the Jets. I don't get bounced around too much with other girls and I'd be really upset if I miss my chance at provincials. So that's the plan...and the kid's just going to have to hold on tight and go for the ride :)

We're going to have a baby!
Surprise everyone, I'm going to be a mommy.
Remy and I are proud to announce the coming of our first baby. It's still really early in the process and anything can happen so keep your fingers crossed for us. It's just that so many of you are far away and and I'd like to keep you in the loop, encourage your support and keep in touch more often.
I missed my ...ahem...boys turn away if you want to... period this month for the first time ever. This happened surprisingly quickly, Rem and I haven't been "trying" for more than 3 months so I guess I inherited my mother's awesome fertility. Nothing really seemed amiss so I waited a few days and on Sunday Feb 4 I took the home pregnancy test. It's amazingly difficult to pee on a stick for exactly 5 seconds without making a big mess. Almost instantly the results window began to form a +. That's + for positive :)
I wanted Remy to be the first to know so I had to wait for my parents (who were visiting from Ontario for my birthday) to go to bed. He was watching TV, I went and sat on his lap and handed him the test stick. He looked at if for a second then it dawned on him what the little + meant. He gave me a big hug, trying to stutter "For real? For real?" Then got his composure and ordered that I eat lots of vitamins, broccoli every day and go to the gym everyday too. We went to bed and I was dangerously close to staying awake all night plotting how to tell the folks.
Monday we went out for dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory with my parents and Jeanine and Adam. I waited till after dinner and then broke the news. I think they were in real shock because Rem and I really didn't tell many people that we were ready to get down to family business.
Tuesday was my 30th birthday so we went out to the Keg for dinner and both me and Jr enjoyed my favourite prime rib with horseradish dinner and Creme Brulee for dinner. Rem noticed that I was a bit hungry and commented that I should keep eating, I was eating for 2. I had to gross him out by pointing out that at this stage the fetus is not even as big as a crumb on my plate so she doesn't need to eat much :)
Wednesday I dropped my parents back off at the airport and went to my doctor for confirmation. Sure enough we're pregnant and the due date should be somewhere around October 10, 2007.
So this is officially week 5 and I will try to post every few days to update you on all the developments.
Enjoy!
