To work or not to work

I have a big decision to make about when to stop working this summer. My two foremost thoughts are to finish up in the end of May (about 21 weeks) or June 20 (24 weeks).
Here are my arguments...feel free to give me your thoughts or other ideas. The recommendations in my books say that ladies with heavy lifting jobs or are on their feet more than 4 hours straight should change to lighter duties around week 24.

May 31:
Don't have to pay full rent for a partial month in clinic
Can work from home with shorter hours without worrying about rent
Don't have to commute
Jax will love me
Can visit my sister Marci in Ontario who is expecting #2 June 22
Will still be working corporate and can devote more time to finding good help

June 20:
Love my clients and would get an extra 3 weeks.
More normal feeling for longer
Still gives me time to fly to Ontario for a week or so
More guaranteed pay check for the month

We are the Champions

I just finished playing in the last, final, terminal, everything on the line, championship game for the 2006-07 season and... WE WON!! WE WON!! WE WON!!
We got a full team out except that we only had 3 Defencepersons (of which I am one) so I had lots of ice time that's for sure. We out worked 'em, out hit 'em, out shot 'em and out scored 'em. I was actually feeling quite well considering the game started WAY past my bed time. I stepped it up and played my old aggressive style of defense...I tend to play better that way, even though I got 2 penalties for roughing. The first girl skated right into me and fell down. I helped her a little...she came right off both her feet :) The second was just working along the boards and the girl fell down. I really don't think I should have gotten a penalty for that one.
Anyway, the important part is that we won 3-0 and put those whiney babies right in their places. Loosers! That's karma setting in!
I'd really better get to bed or there's no way I'm getting up for work tomorrow!

First Midwife visit

I met with Lindsay and Tamara on Thursday this week to look into midwifery as an option for my prenatal care. Lindsay is currently a midwife while Tamara is finishing up her residency and will be practicing in June. They are nice ladies and I felt really comfortable sitting there chatting with my feet up, by the fireplace, for about an hour. Way better than some stuffy doctors office and waiting room that they just can't wait to get you through and see the next patient. We didn't do anything really significant but my heartbeat and blood pressure are fine and I don't have any symptoms that they are worried about. We are saving the physical to the next appointment since there will be more to feel. Sorry, no ultrasounds yet.
Tomorrow I play what will hopefully be the last playoff game of the season. If we win or tie we will be the league champions! If we lose we have to play again on Monday. I hope we beat these whining turkeys.
My due date has changed a little, either way we'll either have a Thanksgiving turkey or a Halloween goblin! Mark your calendars for Oct 12.

Hockey, Pranks and Bloopers

Hey! I'm back from Kamloops and the provincials. We didn't do as well as we would have liked...in fact we got spanked 9-1 by the Kamloops team on Friday morning. We lost 3 games and won just 1. Unfortunately for me, one of those losses was solely my fault... I accidentally put the puck in my own net giving the other team a 4-3 lead and they went on to win 5-4. I was so embarrassed I would have benched myself if there had been enough players :(
Aside from less than successful play, our team had a wonderful time on the town. We got a little silly on Saturday with some pranks at the hotel room. Some girls used hockey tape to tie the hotel room doors closed on people who were having naps! There were other things as well but I don't want to give away too many ideas before april fools day!!
I was feeling wonderful after the games but again started to fade really quickly in the evenings. One team dinner I couldn't even get through half my bowl of chicken noodle soup. Last night though I had one little symptom that I want to check out - I feel like my hearts been fluttering a bit. I see a midwife on Thursday so I'll check it out then.

Going to Provincials

After a busy work week I'm really looking forward to going to Kamloops for the Provincials tournament. If we win this tourney we will represent BC at the Western Shields later in April. As for our playoffs, we had game 3 scheduled for Tuesday night and showed up ready to win the series...and the refs didn't show up! I think it was a conspiracy, the other team were supposed to hire the refs and I think they were scared we'd win! So the game is postponed until mid-March sometime.
Junior and I are doing fine. I'm still exhausted by early evening and can't look at, eat or smell meat after about 4 pm. Knowing this I just load up on protein during the day and reserve bagels or hot crossed buns for dinner. I met another couple expecting on the same day as me at the dog park this morning and found we had a lot of the same experiences so far.
Anyway, I miss you Marianne, Peter, Duncan, Angelique and Steph. Keep in touch.

Playoffs

After missing a week of my team's playoff games I was really happy to learn that we were still in contention for this years top spot and got to play game #2 of our series against the Killarney Coyotes yesterday.
We scored early in the game and managed to pull away 3-0 by the end of the first. The second period was not as successful as we lacked the enthusiasm of the first period and allowed them a goal. The referees had a death wish for us when they put 20 min on the time clock for the third period...we normally only play 15 min and...trust me...5 min makes a HUGE difference in such a high intensity sport. Killarney scored again in the first 5 minutes but we managed to hold them off despite an onslaught of penalties. About halfway through the period, Miranda scored a beautiful breakaway goal to give us the 2 goal buffer and we held on to beat the Coyotes for the first time this year 4-2. Since game #1 was a tie that puts us up 3 points to one in a first to 4 series. We play again on Tuesday to decide the series and crown a league champion.
Now the question you're all wondering...how am I doing out there with little Junior holding on for dear life. Well, I feel awesome. No doubt I'm a little winded since my blood has been rerouted from my heart and lungs to the little one. But all in all I'm playing well, no one is knocking me around and I feel 100% better after a game than I have in a month. As long as my balance doesn't get messed up I am definately going to finish off my season with the Jets, even if we qualify for the Western Shield in Mid-April.

Finally Friday

I'm so glad the work week is now done. Clinic was crazy busy all week and I had to fill in for my helper Thursday and Friday as well so it's more work than I've been used to since Christmas. On the other hand it was really nice seeing some of my old clients at Relic and Golder and to fill them in on the happy news.
I actually made it through the whole canucks game last night...they won in overtime against the Sharks (yay Duncan). It was a pretty exciting game too. Also exciting, I have made an appointment to see a registered midwife in a couple of weeks. Actually 2...they're teaming up so they can have some time off once and a while. The lady who would be caring for me is still a student and graduating in July. At least her knowledge will be really fresh.
Today I'm hoping to go see a movie with Mayumi and Remco but in the meantime I want to take my little Jax to Buntzen lake to burn off some energy. It's not raining this morning...yet.
Tomorrow I get to play in the last playoff game for my Jets team and we'll get ready and organized for provincials next weekend in Kamloops. Wish us luck!!

Sleeping Beauty

I'm sooo sorry that I've been neglecting my blogging. We arrived home from the Dominican Republic Sunday at midnight and I haven't been able to stay awake for more than half an hour once I get home. Even the Canucks game on Tuesday night couldn't keep me up, my eyelids were fluttering all through the third period! Last night I fell asleep on Remy's lap while watching TV and the poor guy didn't want to move me so suffered through as stiff back until he was ready for bed too. I guess the time change and the first trimester are ganging up on me.
The rest of our time in the Dominican was awesome. It remained 28-30 degrees everyday, sunny with a light breeze and only rained a couple of evenings. After golfing on Monday, we went on the Bavaro Runners truck tour through Punta Cana on Tuesday. We saw the sugar cane fields, a cocoa and coffee farm, one of the typical family houses, the rice fields and stopped at a ranch to do some horseback riding and have lunch. It was a long day and I was EXHAUSTED afterwards. Wednesday we just hung out with the gang by the pool and did water aerobics and merengue lessons...sexy sexy sexy. Thursday I went with Rem, Uncle Dave and dad to swim with the sharks and sting rays!! They weren't mean by any stretch of the imagination but they were pretty big so that was neat. A lot of people got back on the boat with very red backs after 45 minutes of snorkelling. Friday I tried archery and played a couple games of beach volleyball then siesta'd the rest of the afternoon. It was a great time and I greatly preferred the DR to Cuba. The only letdowns were the specialty restaurants. The food there was never fully cooked. Stick to the Buffet. I'll post some pics this weekend when I get a chance to download my camera.
This week I've been right back to work and busier than ever. Only one more day till the weekend...yippee!!
