IT'S A BOY

It moved!

I have just started feeling junior! I ate some dinner one night last week and was just settled down on the couch but I felt like my tummy was growling still. Confused, I kind of looked at my belly and it dawned on me that the feeling was coming from much lower down than my stomach! I was actually feeling the baby's tiny fluttering movements. It usually happens when I'm relaxed sitting or laying down and it's not a big feeling, just like butterflies in my stomach or something. Still, it's pretty exciting to finally feel this kid moving around, playing with the umbilical cord and doing somersaults!

Go Canucks Go

Just wanted to say I'm looking forward to game 2 against the Ducks tonight. There's really been nothing too exciting going on. I had prenatal yoga last night where I continue to learn more ways to get even with your husband for sleeping peacefully each night while you toss and turn, and later get up several times a night to feed the baby. Oh, they get pretty creative!! I'm going for a swim later today although I may as well just walk outside - its POURING again. Oh well, go canucks go!

In the clutches of the medical system

Oh, I feel like all I'm ever doing these days is making appointments! Now that I'm through the first trimester I can finally get to the dentist to fill in my...sniff...first cavity :(
Also, my midwife found a teeny little nodule on my thyroid so for safety's sake I had to go to visit the doctor, who thinks its nothing but for safety's sake wants to send me for blood work. Add to that trying to book an ultrasound appointment for 3-5 weeks from now when the receptionist says they're booking almost 2 months in advance gets a bit tricky. I barely knew I was pregnant 2 months ago!! Anyways, we found a spot on May 23rd so I'll post the ultrasound pic when I get it.
Other than that I've been a bit sick with a cold that just doesn't want to go away. At least the Canucks are trying to cheer me up. They won the first series of the playoffs last night and have moved to the second round! Yay! Go 'nucks go!

Tiny little heart beat

Well, it's finally real. At our midwife appointment on Thursday Remy and I were able to hear junior's tiny little heart just a beating away. It was pretty easy to tell mine from the baby's - Lindsay (the midwife) says she loves working with athletes - mine is a slow and steady "whoosh" while juniors is like a rapid "tap tap"-ing sound. It's strong, steady, clear and right in the 150 beats per minute range that she should be right now. We'll go for an ultrasound in the next 3-5 weeks so I'll post that pic when I get it.
Other than that life has been pretty slow without hockey :( I am taking a prenatal yoga course once a week and walking with Jax quite a bit. I'm looking forward to summer, although I still haven't found any help for my corporate massage business. I'm in clinic till the end of May - just 6 more weeks!!

Jets: the best 3rd place team in the world

This is at the opening ceremonies on Friday afternoon. We had already played Kamloops the night before and fought valiantly but came up slightly short. We lost 4-2.
On the bench during the early Friday game against Saskatchewan. They were big girls...looks like they all had wheaties for breakfast every day of their lives! We kept it tight but suffered a 2-1 loss. They went on to play in the finals against Kamloops.
Action shot...Elladee taking a slap shot

Digging in the corners during a game against Saskatchewan.

This is the 4 awesome defensemen who sacrificed life and limb (and sanity) to protect our goalie Hannah and keep the puck out of our net. Way to go D crew.

Colleen Burke wins the face-off. Our other games were against Manitoba (lost 4-3) and Alberta (won 5-3) and finally Manitoba again in the bronze medal game which we won 5-4.

Third Best Team in Western Canada

Bronze Medallists

I am proud to say that the Delta Jets hockey team is the 3rd best 'A' level team in all of Western Canada!! We had a few close losses and thought we were out of the running, but with a bit of luck and a win over Alberta we found ourselves in the Bronze medal finals on Sunday. Everyone turned out in full force so we always had lots of fresh legs and in the end we defeated Manitoba 5-4! I'm going to use the medal as a mobile above junior's crib :)

Welcome to the Second Trimester!!

We did it! Junior and I have just passed the important first stage of pregnancy and are now in the second trimester!! Have a beer for me :) Nothing has really changed that much except I feel able to stay awake a bit better in the evenings and have even dabbled in some afternoon meat consumption.
To celebrate the milestone we played our first game of the Western Shield Hockey Championships tonight against Kamloops (they beat us 9-1 in the provincials and are really stacked!). It was a LONG game but we battled hard and managed to keep the game pretty tight - we only lost 4-2. Relatively that's a victory :)
It's been a great week in the world of hockey. Our absolutely awesome womens national team beat USA in the World cup championship for yet another gold medal and we walloped em 5-1. I love Hayley Wickenheiser and the gang. They're awesome.
For the Canucks fans who are out of touch, the first game of the playoffs was last night/this morning. Yes, morning! The game went to 4 overtimes before Henrick Sedin finally decided to put the darn puck in the net (at about 12:30 in the morning!!) and end the game 5-4. I gave up watching at 11:30 after the second overtime. The next game is Friday night.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY APRIL BABIES

Happy Birthday to all my friends and family celebrating their birthdays!

My Great Grandma Sime turns 102 this Sunday

Peter, Marianne and Duncan - I know you guys are 3,4,5 or something like that but we always celebrated them together and now I can't remember who's who. So triple happy birthday to all of you!

Mayumi - Getting ahead of myself but since I'm doing the birthday thing, happy birthday on the 15th.

Marci - I didn't forget you old girl :) Have a great b-day on the 23rd

Busy Summer coming up

Oh so much to do.
I've decided that May 30 will be my last day in clinic. I'll still work the corporate gigs and try to get some help to build that end of the business. I was even thinking I'd take some classes on baby massage and I could do some teaching in the new year. I'd have my own demonstration "tool" after all. Would that mean I could write off my baby? :)

I was also thinking about visiting Ontario for a little bit in June. Yes...for you Marci. The only thing is it's really hard to leave Jax with Remy while he's working so I'm considering driving out there. Rem might be able to go one way with me and fly back so I will just need someone to do it the other way with me. Ben, Claudia, Lee? Anyone interested in navigating for me?

Rem's 30th birthday is on 07/07/07 and Jeanine gets married July 21st. Then Rem's family are having a reunion in Saskatchewan in August. I think there'll be plenty to keep me busy this summer.

Three-Peat!!

Our tournament in Everett was tonnes of fun and we managed to defeat the competition for the third year straight and take home the trophy. Two games we won rather handily 6-2 and 6-0 against teams from the lower mainland. Portland was our biggest challenge. They had one player who managed to sneak past us and score 3 times in the round robin resulting in our only loss of the tourney 3-2. We met again in the final matchup and this time had their number. With one of our defensemen standing no more than 2 feet away from their little superstar at any time, she really couldn't do much and got very frustrated. We put 3 pucks in their net early on and rode the lead for the rest of the game. Final score was 3-1. Junior has practically become part of the team now. I had several unusual penalties during one game and we were all joking that it was junior's fault... The baby made me do it!!
The other reason we go to this tournament is location... it's next to all the big outlet malls near Seattle. My friend Caroline and I went down Friday specifically to go shopping and we made some great finds. I managed to find a wardrobe that will pretty much get me through the rest of the year - fun stuff too, no moo-moos - and a pair of cute pink rubber boots with kitty faces on the toes for about $250 US total. Good times.
